Buenos Aires, November 19 (NA) – Lanús of Argentina and Atlético Mineiro of Brazil will face this Saturday at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción, Paraguay, in the grand final of the Copa Sudamericana, which will be covered live by the Noticias Argentinas News Agency.
Lanús, coached by Mauricio Pellegrino, will be seeking its second Copa Sudamericana title, after the one won in 2013, which would allow it to tie with Boca, Independiente, Atlético Paranaense of Brazil, Liga de Quito, and Independiente del Valle as the competition's most winners.
In addition to the 2013 win, when they surpassed Ponte Preta of Brazil, Lanús also played the final of this tournament in 2020, edition in which they lost 3-0 in the decisive match against Defensa y Justicia.
Atlético Mineiro, for its part, will be playing its first Copa Sudamericana final. The Brazilian team, currently with Jorge Sampaoli as head coach, will play its second consecutive international final, as last year it reached the decisive match in the Copa Libertadores, when it had Argentine Gabriel Milito as coach, and lost 3-1 to Botafogo.
Regarding the countries that have won the Copa Sudamericana the most, Argentina comfortably leads this statistic with 10 titles (two from Boca and Independiente, one from San Lorenzo, Arsenal, Lanús, River, Defensa y Justicia, and Racing), followed by Brazil's five (two from Athletico Paranaense and one from Internacional, São Paulo, and Chapecoense), and Ecuador's four (two from Liga de Quito and two from Independiente del Valle).
